About Me
As a self-taught artist specializing in coloured pencils, I find endless inspiration in the diverse wildlife and beloved pets that share our world.
My passion lies in capturing the intricate textures of fur, feathers, branches, and lichen, bringing to life the vibrant details that often go unnoticed. Each stroke and hue is an attempt to convey the unique personality and spirit of these animals, urging viewers to see them as sentient beings worthy of admiration and protection.
Focusing primarily on North American wildlife, my work aims to bridge the gap between human and animal, fostering a deep appreciation and a desire to safeguard these magnificent creatures from extinction.
Through observation and the use of reference photos, I begin with a detailed sketch, laying the foundation for a piece that strives to be both accurate and emotionally resonant.
My goal is to create art that allows the audience to imagine the texture of an animal’s fur or feathers, to almost feel it beneath their fingertips, and to gaze into the soul of the creature depicted. In doing so, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and empathy, inspiring a commitment to conservation and a greater respect for the natural world.
I work from a small studio in my home on Vancouver Island. Surrounded by pacific coastline, garry oak meadows and rainforest, there is never a lack of inspiration.
